Autistic children at Cambridge Park High School will now have a comfortable environment to enjoy during recess and lunch after the school, with help from Bunnings Warehouse North Penrith, renovated the Support Office courtyard recently.

Team members from Bunnings Warehouse have been helping the school to install a shade sail, paint the floor, attach bamboo screening to the area, assemble garden beds and affix decking to the walls to help create a suitable environment for the children at the school.

“The aim was to create an outdoor learning environment and provide the students with the opportunity to participate in the activity,” Principal of the school, Kay Rigas said.

The renovation has helped the children build their skills with the garden helping to teach the students how to care for plants

For the past few weeks the autistic students have been working with Bunnings Warehouse to ensure the area will be ready for them to use within the next week after the weather delayed the progress.

“There are 24 autistic children at the school and they can all fit comfortably in this space that will hopefully feel like it’s their own,” Ms Rigas said.
