Penrith MP Stuart Ayres is the new NSW Police Minister.
NSW Premier Mike Baird confirmed the appointment of Mr Ayres to the key portfolio this morning.
The move continues an incredible rise for Mr Ayres, who was only elected to Parliament in 2010 but has proved a solid performer for the Government. He was a favourite of former Premier Barry O’Farrell and clearly enjoys the support of his replacement.
“Stuart Ayres has shown a huge amount of passion and dedication as Fair Trading Minister, Minister Assisting the Premier on Western Sydney, and Member for Penrith,” Mr Baird said this morning.
“He thoroughly deserves the challenge of the key Police and Emergency Services portfolio, and I know that he will continue to work hard to improve frontline delivery across this state, while delivering in his role as Minister for Sport and Recreation.”
While Mr Ayres will retain the Sport & Recreation portfolio he was handed two weeks ago, he will move on from the Fair Trading portfolio.
Matthew Mason-Cox, a newcomer to the Cabinet, will take over the Fair Trading role.
Mr Ayres comes to the Police portfolio in place of Mike Gallacher, who resigned last week.
