Man charged after flouting fire ban

A man has been charged after allegedly deliberately lighting a fire near Penrith today.

About 12pm today, police will allege a man deliberately set fire to a large pile of leaves in Barnes Road, Llandilo.

A total fire ban has been issued for today as temperatures exceeded 40 degrees in the area today, topping more than 42 degrees late in the afternoon.

A 28-year-old man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged with ‘failing to comply with the direction of the minister’.

He was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear before Penrith Local Court on Tuesday, February 6.
