Two hot, new up-and-coming artists are headed to Windsor for the Sydney Blues and Roots Festival on Saturday, October 27.
Crooked Saint and Ashleigh Mannix are amongst the best emerging talents in the Blues and Roots genre to come out of Australia, and will this year make an appearance at the prestigious music festival.
Crooked Saint, the alter-ego of Tim Wheatley (son of John Farnham’s manager Glenn Wheatley), has had a massive 18 months, releasing two independent EPs to great acclaim, garnering airplay from Triple J and the ABC among others. In support of the CD releases he’s completed two Australian tours and two lengthy stints in California, including a residency at the famed House of Blues.
With long term collaborator Michael Badger on bass, guitarist Johnny Grant and drummer Troy Ramaekers, the last six months has seen Crooked Saint morph from a solo project with Wheatley on vocals and guitar, into a broadening musical act.
Over the last 12 months, in both band and solo incarnations, Crooked Saint has supported everyone from The Black Sorrows, Ian Moss, Sarah McLeod and Tim Freedman through to Boom Crash Opera and Dragon.
Crooked Saint will tour the Australian East Coast with joint headliner Ashleigh Mannix, covering nearly 25 venues throughout October and November.
A young, yet experienced artist, Ashleigh Mannix’s boundless sound floats somewhere in the realm of a folk, rockabilly and blues fusion. Her uncompromising talent and truthful approach take her voice, song-writing and performance to a new level.
A modern-day mash-up of Stevie Wonder and Stevie Nicks, with a touch of Janis Joplin, Mannix is constantly embracing new influences to evolve her sound and musical message. Recently supporting British artist James Morrison on his Australian tour, Mannix is finding new fans all over Australia.
With the first of a series of three EPs (‘From the City’, ‘From the Mountains’ and ‘From the Sea’), Mannix combines an ideal blend of folk, rock and blues with a hint of pop to get you moving.
Don’t miss Crooked Saint and Ashleigh Mannix at the Sydney Blues and Roots Festival in Windsor on Saturday, October 27. Tickets for the four-day Sydney Blues and Roots Festival are $159 for adults and $79 for students aged 15-17.
