Support for the Kingswood monorail is gaining momentum and staff at Nepean Hospital will support a proposal for the Sydney city icon to be moved out west.
Peter Mason of the Nurses Association said after the Weekender published an article on May 11 about Penrith resident, Adrian Schaffer’s monorail vision, many of his staff expressed their approval.
“People have been commenting to me, ‘what a great idea’, especially as we are soon to have a 650 space car park built for Nepean Hospital,” he said.
“While the car park will greatly relieve parking issues in the area, a monorail would encourage people not to drive to the hospital altogether.”
Mr Schaffer has proposed that the monorail be moved to Kingswood and complete a two-way circuit around the Nepean Hospital grounds, down the Great Western Highway to the UWS Werrington campus and to the TAFE.
“Staff work at the hospital 24 hours and people need to travel here at all hours of the day, the monorail would help staff travel by public transport,” Mr Mason said.
“This would greatly benefit hospital staff, students, patients, teachers and local businesses.”
Mr Mason said he is hoping that other organisations will throw support behind Mr Schaffer’s idea.
“The more people who show an interest in moving the monorail to Kingswood, the more chance we have of making it happen,” he said.
