The grounds of Penrith’s Museum of Fire will turn into a magical, medieval and mythical wonderland this weekend when Fantasyfest 2011 comes to town.
Pirates, Fairies, Vikings, Elves, Witches, Ninjas, Warrior Knights, Barbarians and even R2D2 from the hit ‘Star Wars’ movies are just a sample of the colourful characters attending this year’s Fantasyfest.
Imagine your favourite characters from the pages of books and the big screen coming to life and performing right in front of your very eyes – this festival will blow you away!
The Knights of Nova Hollandia Entertainment will thrill you with their amazing colourful horses; brave Knights will compete in a bone jarring medieval joust and don’t forget the thrilling Barbarian Horseback Archery Show.
Another great addition is the wonderful Peter Pan show being performed by Sydney’s premier Sword Play group, along with plenty of other entertaining swashbuckling shows throughout the day.
Patrons are encouraged to wear any fantasy, cartoon, steampunk, sci-fi or cosply costumes over the weekend and enter the best dressed competition to win some cool prizes. It’s predicted the fancy dress parade will be an entertaining spectacle in its own right.
Event organiser, Katrina Kruse, said people of all ages would find something they can relate and have fun with at Fantasyfest.
“We wanted to have a fun fantasy-filled weekend for the whole family,” she said.
“There is something here for everyone from ages two to 102 and the best dressed will win fantastic prizes each day.”
Musicians from Orion’s Consort and local duo The Tea Pots will perform under the trees in the grounds of the Museum of Fire. For the youngsters there is Knights School, archery and free face painting to keep them occupied.
“We are very fortunate to have some of Australia’s premier entertainment groups performing over the weekend,” Ms Kruse said.
“The joust is the jewel in the crown and will be performed twice a day. It will be supported by a vast array of swashbuckling sword and combat shows, horseback archery, musicians, steampunk displays, movie make-up and prosthetic displays, as well as some great fantasy stalls.”
Don’t forget to bring your camera because the festival will be a photographer’s delight with loads of colour, unusual characters and wild action throughout the weekend.
Fantasyfest 2011 will be an action-packed and colourful fun-filled event for one and all and definitely cannot be missed!
