An off-duty police officer has been charged with mid-range drink driving after being stopped for a random breath test in Penrith.
Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting random breath testing on Mulgoa Road about 12.20am yesterday when they stopped a Suzuki utility.
The driver – a 25-year-old man – was subjected to a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned with a positive result.
The man – who is a Senior Constable attached to North West Metropolitan Region – was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station, where he underwent a breath analysis which returned an alleged reading of 0.143.
He was issued a Court Attendance Notice for mid-range PCA – 1st offence and is due to appear at Penrith Local Court on Thursday, August 1.
His licence was suspended.
A police spokesperson confirmed his employment status is currently under review.
