The St Marys CBD will receive a significant spruce up after the State Government announced funding to help revitalise the area.

Penrith Mayor Todd Carney was last week joined by Minister for Western Sydney and Member for Londonderry Prue Car to announce the funding.

They stood in St Marys’ Coachmans Park to announce that Penrith City Council has received a $400,000 grant from the NSW Government to help revitalise the St Marys Town Centre.

The Community Improvement District (CID) Pilot Program granted the suburb the funding, which will be used to deliver a series of initiatives identified in the recently endorsed St Marys Town Centre Place Plan.

The actions identified included lighting and streetscape upgrades, more signage, programs to help local businesses grow with the town and events to celebrate the local community all to be funded through the grant money.

The Place Plan indicated that the upgrades will be implemented over a period of five years.

Carney said that this funding will help to grow and strengthen the local community.

“These improvements and programs will complement other significant programs in the area, like St Marys Central Park and the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport rail line to establish St Marys as a strategic centre in western Sydney,” he said.

“We will collaborate closely with the St Marys Town Centre Corporation, local businesses, community members and other organisations to deliver these initiatives.

“Council thanks the NSW Government for recognising the importance of investing in St Marys and the benefits this funding will bring to our community.”

To encourage investment into St Marys, a marketing campaign will be implemented with the aim of attracting more people into the area.

Car, whose ministerial office sits on Queen Street, said she was delighted to see the Place Plan for improving the town centre of St Marys.

“It is fantastic to see our local area set for revitalisation, particularly as work continues on the rail connection to Western Sydney Airport,” she told the Weekender.

“Our community of St Marys has so much to offer – I cannot wait to see the new installations, lighting and other enhancements this initiative will bring.”
