Mavrik Geyer is on the cusp of making his NRL debut against the Roosters on Thursday night.
Western Weekender columnist Peter Lang, citing multiple sources, says Geyer will be handed his debut by coach Ivan Cleary.
Geyer is the son of Panthers legend and 1991 Premiership winner, Mark Geyer.
It is one of the most anticipated and exciting club debuts in years, particularly given the Geyer legacy at the club.
The 23-year-old Borthers Penrith Junior has played through the club’s junior system, starring in the Harold Matthews, SG Ball, Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup sides.
The opportunity for the second rower comes in the wake of a knee injury to Scott Sorensen, who it is understood will be out for several weeks.
Earlier this year, Geyer spoke to the Weekender about his likely 2024 debut.
“I think about making my debut every time I go to sleep at night,” he said.
“I think it will be a pretty special day and hopefully it happens in the future. It will be a big day for me and my family.”
