A truck fire has closed busy Castlereagh Road at Penrith just as the afternoon peak was heating up.
Castlereagh Road is completely closed southbound at Lugard Street.
The Traffic Management Centre is advising motorists to avoid the area.
Diversions using Andrews Road, Richmond Road and Coreen Avenue are currently in place.
Northbound traffic is also facing delays.
Emergency crews are on the scene of the incident, which happened at around 4pm.
The semi-trailer is now “totally involved in fire”, Fire & Rescue NSW says.
Three fire trucks and 12 fire fighters are currently attempting to put out the fire.
It is understood the driver is safe and not injured.
