The Coronavirus situation at a Caddens nursing home has escalated dramatically, with NSW Health confirming 10 staff and residents have tested positive to COVID-19.
Six staff and four residents at Anglicare Newmarch House have tested positive.
It comes after one staff member reportedly worked six shifts despite having symptoms of the virus. The matter is being investigated.
The nursing home has become the new hot spot for the virus, with NSW Health intensely focused on the situation as it unfolds.
Residents are in self-isolation in their own rooms.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she was monitoring the situation, particularly surrounding the reports the staff member worked while sick.
“Obviously it’s of huge concern and very disappointing if someone who has the disease keeps working,” she said.
“We can’t cast blame automatically, let’s wait for the facts.”
NSW Chief Medical Officer Dr Kerry Chant said the staff member who sparked the outbreak was “distraught” and “mortified” by the situation.
Federal Lindsay MP Melissa McIntosh said people needed to continue to take social distancing seriously.
“It is important that anyone who has come into contact with residents or staff in these facilities undertake a test for COVID-19 and practice social isolation,” she said.
“I am saddened that this has happened in our community. It is a very hard time especially for Newmarch House residents and families.”
