Former Penrith Panthers forward Mose Masoe may never walk again after suffering a serious spinal injury during a match in England.
Masoe, who is currently playing for Hull KR, was seriously hurt when he made a tackle in the opening minutes of a trial match against Wakefield Trinity last weekend.
The 30-year-old has undergone surgery and has continued to show signs of improvement, but it’s too early to tell whether or not he’ll be able to walk again.
Rovers coach Tony Smith said it was a devastating situation.
“If you’re talking about career-wise, this is a career-ending injury,” said Smith.
“If Mose is able to walk, that’ll be a success. All that’s still unknown. We’ve got to be careful what we set our sights on as an outcome.”

The Rugby League Benevolent Fund has arranged for Masoe’s family to be flown over to England from Australia.
Masoe only played for Penrith for one season in 2013, but left his mark on the club as a wrecking ball with a huge heart. He played 17 NRL matches for the club and scored two tries.
Prior to joining the Panthers, Masoe played 46 matches with the Roosters.
He moved to England in 2014, where he won the Super League title with St Helens in his first season.
