Penrith Panthers player Tyrone May is facing fresh charges related to a sex tape scandal that engulfed the club in the pre-season.

The 23-year-old now faces eight charges in total after police laid additional counts of recording and distributing intimate images without consent.

Previously May faced four charges including two counts of filming and two counts of distributing a sexual act without the complainants’ knowledge or consent.

It is understood the new charges relate to the same alleged victims and do relate to the original offences.

The sex tape scandal erupted earlier this year after leaked footage, allegedly taken in Coffs Harbour in February 2018 and a second video allegedly filmed at Kingswood in May 2018, surfaced resulting in May’s arrest on March 5.

Police will allege that while the sexual acts were consensual, the women were unaware they were being filmed.

May has pleaded not guilty to the original charges but has yet to enter a plea over the fresh charges.

Court officials told the Weekender yesterday that a hearing had been set for Taree in November, however this is yet to be confirmed.

May has been stood down by the Panthers and the NRL while the case continues.
