Thousands of Glenmore Park residents living in the suburb’s newest estate will no longer have to trek to the Town Centre for supplies, with a long-awaited new shopping village slated for Mulgoa Rise.
Plans for the development – to be located at 90-98 Glenmore Ridge Drive – include a supermarket, childcare centre, liquor store, car wash, gym, medical centre, pharmacy and swim centre.
Specialty shops, including restaurants, a cafe, bakery, newsagent, butcher and associated retail services are also proposed for the centre, which will be bordered by Darug Avenue and Deerubbin Drive.
The development will also feature three levels of residential apartments, to be built above the centre, and on grade and basement car parking.
Residents have been crying out for more facilities within walking distance of the new sub-division for years, with the vast majority of Glenmore Park’s amenities clustered together in the Town Centre, about a 40-minute walk away.
The sprawling suburb is one of Penrith’s largest and most rapidly developing housing estates, with 2016 census figures putting its population at more than 23,000.
CD Architects lodged the $47 million development application for the four-storey mixed-use development, labelled the ‘Glenmore Village’, with Penrith Council late last month.
It is unclear which supermarket chain will feature at the village – with speculation none of the major players can be in such close proximity to the Town Centre, which saw Coles and Aldi join Woolworths as part of a $30 million upgrade in 2017.
