The Yale University Concert Band is heading down under for the first time in its 100-year history, making a special stop at The Joan later this month.
Consisting of 55 brass, woodwind, keyboard and percussion players, the band’s repertoire is varied, from John Philip Sousa’s rousing band music to chamber and ensemble works.
The tour will see the band perform compositions by Tchaikovsky, Hindemith, Maslanka, Mackey, Wilson, and Bernstein, as well as a reconstruction of ‘Bellpiece’, the last composed unfinished piece by famous Australian composer Percy Grainger. It is a reconstruction that has never before been performed in concert in Australia.
With 2018 marking the band’s centennial year, no strangers to international travel, this will be the sixth continent the band has travelled to.
Renowned across the United States, the band has performed at Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall, and many tours across Europe.
The Yale University Concert Band will be at The Joan on Wednesday, May 30 at 7.30pm. This is a free event, with registration required to secure at spot. For more details or to pre-register, visit http://www.thejoan.com.au or call 4723 7600.
