Glenmore Park indoor cricketer Phil Broadhead can attest to the quote ‘Like a fine wine, I get better with age’, after the 52-year-old was selected to play for Australia for the very first time.
Following almost 35 years of playing indoor cricket, Broadhead’s lifelong dream was finally realised late last month when he was one of 12 players selected to represent Australia at the Indoor Cricket Masters World Series in England this October.
Broadhead and his Australian teammates will go up against some of biggest cricketing nations in the world at the inaugural competition for the over 50’s age category.
After missing out on numerous international tours in the past, the self-employed pool excavator said he was overwhelmed to have finally made it.
“It’s a great feeling, it’s still a bit of a blur at the moment though,” Broadhead told the Weekender.
“It was always my goal to one day play for Australia but early on my game wasn’t up to that standard. So over the past four years I’ve had to work really hard to get where I am now.”
