Former Prime Minister John Howard has joined Lindsay MP Fiona Scott on the campaign trail, meeting with locals in the Penrith CBD today.

Mr Howard proved his popularity in the electorate is still strong during the visit this morning, stopping to chat with numerous shoppers at Westfield Penrith.

The Liberals are desperate to retain Lindsay and the former Prime Minister remains well-liked in Penrith, where the term Howard’s Battlers was coined.

“Lindsay represents the great cross section of the community,” Mr Howard said.

“I don’t think the Australian people want to go back to the chaos of the Rudd, Gillard, Rudd years.

“If you are conservative and thinking of not voting Liberal you will end up with a Green-Labor government.”

A heavy media presence was also in tow for Mr Howard’s visit.

Later this afternoon Mr Howard will join Ms Scott at a Liberal Party function in Penrith.
