Major works on the transformational Penrith Station upgrade will begin this weekend, May 14 to 15.
Local commuters and passers-by will see demolition work, excavation on the station platforms and concreting.
Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres announced the upgrade today, and said it’s another step closer to more accessible public transport for Penrith commuters.
“Penrith Station customers deserve the best facilities when it comes to public transport,” he said.
“Today’s news shows that we’re full steam ahead to deliver this much needed upgrade as quickly as possible for customers.”
Upgrades include new lifts and stairs to the platforms, an upgraded station concourse, improved bus, taxi, and kiss and ride areas, and upgrades to lighting and CCTV.
To ensure the safety of customers, the weekend work will be undertaken during a scheduled rail close down at the station.
The improvements are being delivered as a part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, an initiative to deliver modern, safe and accessible transport infrastructure.
Parking is not included in the access program, but planning is underway to build a 300-space, multi-storey car park adjacent to the existing commuter car park on Lord Sheffield Circuit.
