Penrith High School is among a number of schools across Sydney that have been evacuated and placed into lockdown after threats were received.

The exact nature of the threats are unknown at this stage.

Students and teachers at Penrith High School have been evacuated from the school buildings and nobody is in any danger.

“Police are aware of numerous threats made to schools in the Metropolitan and Southern Regions,” a police spokesperson said.

“Investigations are continuing, and police are liaising with the Department of Education.

“Police are warning that making such threats is a serious criminal offence and every effort will be made to identify the person or persons responsible.”

The Department of Education said it was working with police in relation to the incident.

Students are expected to return to school this afternoon.
