While we often think of Sydney as the go-to place for entertainment, there’s plenty happening right here in our own backyard.
Whether you’re a music fanatic, a theatre buff or just looking for a fun night out with mates, this year’s local entertainment program has something for everyone.
Kicking off the year at The Joan is ‘The Divine Miss Bette’ (pictured), which has enjoyed sell-out seasons across the country.
At the head of the production is Catherine Alcorn, who was trained by Steve Ostrow, the man who first discovered the talented songstress Bette Midler. Catherine will be backed by a five piece band as she belts out classic hits like ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ and ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy’.
In February children’s entertainers Hi-5 will be heading to the Evan Theatre with their new show ‘Hi-5 Songfest’.
The little ones will have the chance to sing and dance along to Hi-5 hits like ‘L.O.V.E’ and ‘It’s a Party’.
At Rooty Hill RSL, award winning actor and singer John Waters will be back with his hit show ‘Lennon: Looking Through a Glass Onion’.
Part spoken word, part concert, the show takes audiences through the life and music of one of history’s most iconic artists.
Come March the Evan Theatre will welcome Ted E. Bare and Chuck Wood to the stage for Strassman’s ‘iTedE’.
Audiences will be rolling in the aisles laughing with this Aussie favourite and his cast of colourful puppet characters.
Following on from the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in February, The Joan will be running their very own Mini Gras in March.
The night will feature two new works, giving young members of LGBTQI community the chance to get involved in a fun theatre project.
March will also see country music favourite Adam Brand heading back to the Rooty Hill RSL with his country supergroup Adam Brand & The Outlaws, which features Drew McAlister, Matt Cornell, Travis Collins and Mike Carr.
Over at the Evan Theatre things will be getting a little steamy with the most well known male revue in the world, Manpower Australia taking to the stage mid March.
This will be your chance to see why audiences across the globe have fallen in love with this hot Aussie production.
‘Australia’s Got Talent’ winners and crowd favourites Justice Crew will also be heading to the Evan Theatre in April to get the party started.
The group will performing all their hits, including ‘Que Sera’ and ‘Best Night’, and will give audiences a sneak peek at some of their new material.
May will be the month of laughs with the Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase at the Evan Theatre and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow at The Joan.
These shows will feature some of the best Australian and international comedians the festivals have to offer.
2016 is set to be another big year for entertainment.
