Man shot at Werrington County

A man is in custody assisting with inquiries after another man was shot in Werrington County this morning.

About 12.35am today, police were called to a home on Charles Sturt Drive, Werrington County, after a man with gunshot wounds knocked on the door of a home asking for help.

Police and ambulance paramedics attended and the 30-year-old man was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established in a nearby car park where it is believed the shooting took place.

About 12.40am, police located a Toyota Camry which had been abandoned on McNaughton Street, Jamisontown.

Police seized two firearms which were located inside the vehicle.

About 1am, a 23-year-old man was arrested a short distance away. He was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.

Detectives from St Marys Local Area Command are continuing their investigation into the incident.
