Penrith is turning back the clock, confirming they’ll wear a Super League era warm-up kit for matches this season.
The warm-up tee will bring memories – and perhaps nightmares – flooding back for fans who followed the Panthers in the late 1990s.
The colours an style were introduced for the 1997 Super League season and remained the main jersey for the 1998 and 1999 seasons, before Penrith returned to a black jersey in 2000.
The Panthers NRL squad will wear the throwback tee during warm up at all NRL matches this year, bringing a wave of nostalgia to the members and fans.
The club has put the warm up tee on sale for members and fans from today, available both online and from the Panthers shop.
While the 1997-1999 jersey is not remembered favourably by many fans, it was part of an important era for the club.
It was worn during Penrith’s inaugural season in the unified NRL, for its sole season in Super League and was worn by club legend Greg Alexander in his final season with the club.
The club had been teasing the release this week with quirky 1990s throwbacks across social media.
