One of the Penrith region’s most popular takeaway shops is today the centre of a homicide investigation after two people were found dead inside this morning.
69-year-old Hoa Tek Chiem and his wife Heang Kim Gau, 68, were found dead with apparent stab wounds inside Buzzy Bee’s Burger House at Cambridge Park.
Police were called to the Oxford Street shop at around 9.40am this morning by a family member.
Officers located the two bodies inside, and immediately established a crime scene.
Detective A/Superintendent Michael Cantrell addressed the media at St Marys Police Station a short time ago, while officers remain at Cambridge Park collecting evidence.
“I’m appealing for any witnesses in the Oxford Park, Cambridge Park area at the time early this morning or last night to please contact Nepean Police or Crime Stoppers,” he said.
He said it was a “very devastating” scene.
Nobody is in custody over the incident, and Cantrell said “all motives” were being considered.
“The investigation is in its infancy, there’s many lines of enquiry and we don’t have any targets at this point,” he said.
“I’m aware that there’s footage around on social media and we are looking into that…
“It shows a male in the vicinity but the time is yet to be confirmed but it’s certainly a line of enquiry.”
He said if it was yet to be established if the man featured in footage on social media was related to the incident.
The Weekender understands that police believe the pair may have been targeted, with a robbery gone wrong one possible scenario.
“We have no intelligence to suggest that there’s any further threat,” Cantrell said.
“There is no suspects at this stage.
“The facts are yet to be determined.”
Police have spoken to the family of the beloved shop owners, who it is understood were considering retirement in the near future.
“The family are obviously devastated and they are assisting police,” he said.
“The bodies were located by a family member.
“The details around what happened this morning are limited so I’m not going to speculate.”
Cantrell said support would be provided for those police officers first on the scene.
“It’s a confronting scene. The welfare of our officers is being addressed and we have systems in place for that,” he said.
Locals in Cambridge Park have been coming and going from the popular shopping strip all day, many devastated by the scene.
The business has been in Cambridge Park for decades and is an institution for locals.
“Heading to the local shops and seeing the road closed marks a truly heartbreaking day for Cambo,” one local said on Facebook.
“The tragic loss of two innocent, hardworking individuals due to such senseless violence is beyond devastating.
“My heart goes out to their family, and I pray their sons find strength in supporting one another. To the family, if you are reading this, please know we are deeply sorry for your loss and sending our condolences.”
