Mamre Anglican School has celebrated the completion of its new Senior Studies Centre, designed specifically to suit the modern learning styles of today’s students.
The completion of the $3 million building, which was designed after consultation with students, staff and parents, was celebrated by the school on Tuesday, October 21.
“This building was needed because this school has been rapidly growing over the past six years. We had just 160 students in 2009 and are expecting that we will have about 500 next year,” said Mamre Anglican College Headmaster, Vic Branson.
The school, which currently serves students from Kindergarten up to Year 10, will be introducing a Year 11 class next year and the new building has been designed specifically for senior students.
There are two science labs, three large learning spaces that can be converted to one large hall, two seminar rooms, a number of smaller ‘niche’ spaces for private or small-group study and a staff room.
“Students these days, they want to learn in classroom situations but also want a space where they can sit and read, use their iPads or use a computer,” Mr Branson said.
“The new building has been designed with interesting colours, and lots of open spaces and flexible learning areas, which reflects how kids learn today,” Mr Branson added.
