There’s a number of major projects underway in Penrith at the moment, that will have a significant impact on our city.
Here’s five transformational projects currently underway…
Westfield Penrith upgrades
Westfield Penrith has received approval for a major upgrade along Riley Street, including a much-needed overhaul of the cinema complex.
The plans include several new dining experiences plus a rooftop destination for the community to gather.
The existing Hoyts cinema will be accessed via a new escalator from Riley Street. LUX cinemas will also be incorporated into the upgrade.
342-350 High Street, Penrith
The $20.5 million development of 342-350 High Street will see a strip of well-known buildings demolished to instead make way for two buildings, with Building A a strata mixed-use development fronting High Street, and Building B home to serviced apartments, situated at the rear of the site and fronting John Cram Place.
“High Street hasn’t really had any significant development for a long time. Even generally in the Penrith CBD, there hasn’t been any brand-new development that’s hit the market for sale,” said John Henry, Director, Sales and Leasing at Raine & Horne Commercial Penrith.
A number of businesses, including Raine & Horne Commercial and Amanda Little & Associates, are already locked in for the commercial sites.
Penrith RSL upgrades
Penrith RSL is currently undergoing major refurbishments, with a club extension of 3,500 square metres.
It includes a 1000 seat function and dining precinct, and new commercial leased spaces along Tindale Street.
A new museum dedicated to Penrith’s war veterans is also being developed as part of the refurbishment.
There will also be a new foyer and other new additions to the club.
Penrith Stadium redevelopment
Penrith Stadium – home to the Penrith Panthers – is being transformed into a new sporting and entertainment precinct.
With a capacity of around 25,000, it will be developed on the site of the existing Penrith Park.
Work will start on the new stadium after the current NRL season, with the venue expected to reopen in late 2026.
The stadium will not only be used for sporting events, but is likely to attract concerts and other festivities.
Western Sydney International Airport & Metro
The development of Western Sydney International Airport will be game-changing for Penrith, which is the closest major city to the new transport hub.
With it comes the new Sydney Metro, which will include a major interchange at St Marys. Metro stations will also exist at Orchard Hills, Luddenham, Bradfield and at the airport site itself.
The airport is due to open in 2026, and will provide a major boost to the local visitor economy.
