Brooke vows to help

Seven-year-old Brooke Jones is hosting her own unique fundraiser out of determination to help the families and patients who are supported by the local Nepean Cancer Care Centre.

The Glenmore Park girl decided to host ‘Brooke’s Car Rally’, a scavenger hunt style game where participants follow a number of clues around Penrith in their cars.

“I went to the Nepean Hospital with my dad to drop off some boxes and I saw people going in with no hair and they were really sick,” she said.

“I decided that I wanted to help them and raise money for them.”

She came straight home and told her mum, Amanda Jones that she wanted to raise money and was prepared to do anything to help the patients out.

“As a cancer survivor and patient of the centre myself and her mother, I am extremely proud of Brooke and her compassion at such a young age. She was two-years-old when I was diagnosed but cancer is always discussed and spoken about at home,” Mrs Jones said.

“She was prepared to sit on the curb selling raffle tickets to raise money but as we live in a cul-de-sac, we thought it would be best to think of another way.”

‘Brooke’s Car Rally’ is set to take local participants on a whirlwind journey around the local area, beginning at Brooke’s school, Surveyors Creek Public School and ending at a final but secret destination on Sunday, October 13.

“It is a thing for all families to do,” Brooke said.

Brooke has already raised $2,695, well over her $300 goal but as there are still spaces left for participants, the fundraising won’t stop there.
