A man has been assaulted and subjected to an attempted carjacking after stopping to render aid to a person lying on the roadway.
About 5.20am yesterday, a 27-year-old man was driving along John Batman Avenue in Werrington County when he saw a man lying in the gutter.
He stopped his car and approached the man to render aid, however the man lying on the roadway punched him in the chest.

Officers have been told the 27-year-old heard the alleged offenders discuss taking his car, before leaving it and making off in their own vehicle.
The injured man returned home and was taken to Nepean Hospital where he received treatment for fractured ribs, internal bruising and superficial grazes.
Police from St Marys Local Area Command are investigating the incident and have been supplied with a description of the man that was lying in the gutter.
He is of Caucasian appearance, 20-30 years of age, with black hair and was wearing a black tracksuit.
