A Londonderry man was a multi-millionaire and didn’t know it.
He won $3,000,000 in Lotto earlier this month, but his ticket was unregistered and he didn’t find out until a week after the draw.
The stunned winner admitted he wasn’t aware NSW Lotteries had been looking for a mystery unregistered winner in the area.
“I was at the outlet and I saw the sign that said a division one winning entry in the $21 million Superdraw was sold there,” the winner explained.
“I made a comment to the owner who said to me jokingly, ‘Are you sure it’s not you?’ I laughed it off but thought I better check the entries I’d bought there. It was a complete surprise when I discovered I had the winning ticket!”
The astonished winner said he’s not too sure what he’ll do with the money but hopes to plan a family holiday for later in the year.
The winning ticket was not registered to a NSW Lotteries Players Club card which meant NSW Lotteries officials wasn’t able to contact the lucky winner to let him know of his new multi-millionaire status.
NSW Lotteries spokesperson Belinda McDougall said players are always encouraged to register their tickets to a NSW Lotteries Players Club card.
“Registering an entry to a NSW Lotteries Players Club card ensures their prize is secure and that NSW Lotteries can contact them directly with news of a division one win!
The winning ticket was purchased from Londonderry Supermarket and Newsagency, Shop 3 on Carrington Road, Londonderry.
Throughout Australia, there were seven entries that won a first division share in last weekend’s $21 million Superdraw, each worth $3,000,000.00.
Along with the winning entry from Londonderry, another two winning tickets were sold in New South Wales, two were purchased in Victoria and one each in Western Australia and Northern Territory.
The winning numbers in Saturday Lotto draw 3319 on 11 May 2013 were 38, 30, 32, 16, 41 and 35 with the supplementary numbers of 45 and 39.
