Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash in Luddenham to come forward after the driver failed to stop at the scene.
Shortly before 5pm yesterday, Penrith police attempted to stop a black Holden Commodore in Torton Place, Penrith.
The vehicle drove away from officers and a pursuit was initiated before being terminated shortly after. The Holden was involved in a second pursuit with highway patrol officers before it was terminated moments later due to the vehicle’s dangerous driving.
“The Holden continued to travel south on the Northern Road and as it approached the Elizabeth Road junction, it collided with a blue Mazda also travelling south,” Police said in a statement.
“The Mazda then hit a power pole on the side of the road.”
The 17-year-old male driver of the Mazda sustained minor injuries, while two girls in the car, aged eight and ten, were taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
The driver of the Holden was near a service station in Luddenham, when he ran from the scene.
Police attended the address of the owner of the Holden and arrested a 42-year-old man and took him to Penrith Police Station.
He was later released pending further inquiries.
Police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the crash and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed it, or have information about the driver of the Commodore, to contact them.
