Police believe that a man who was found deceased at his workplace in Dunheved this morning knew his killer.
Police were called to a recycling plant, Solveco Liquid Recycling, on Links Road at about 5.30am this morning where the body of a 65-year-old man was found.
The man, who was an employee at the recycling plant, was already deceased when he was found by fellow employees who were turning up for the morning shift.
The man had sustained stab wounds to the shoulder area.
Police established a crime scene, closing roads in the area, in an attempt to gather more information about the death.
“Local police plus a homicide unit is currently on scene and are making initial enquiries into the circumstances surrounding this death. We currently have spoken to a number of employees in the factory and a number of other people in the local area and we are following up on a number of leads,” said Superintendent Ray Filewood, St Marys LAC.
Police are still investigating whether the suspect was a former employee however they have confirmed that the persons involved were known to eachother.
“We are following a number of strong leads which would indicate that the two people are known (to each other),” Mr Filewood said.
It is believed that a number of witnesses are assisting police in their investigations.
“We believe the person came to the premises around 4am, this violence occurred roughly after that time and police attended around 5.30am. We believe that there were other people there, at least one other person and that forms part of our investigation,” Mr Filewood said.
“The nature of this, it is quite horrific. We are appealing for anyone who has knowledge.”
Police have said that although there are witnesses to the incident, investigations are still continuing. Anyone with any information can contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 or their local police station.
