Penrith Beach locked in for next two years

Penrith Beach will be back.

The State Government has confirmed Penrith Beach will operate for at least the next two summers.

$5.2 million will be spent to activate the swimming spot on Castlereagh Road for the 2025-26 summer as well as 2026-27.

“Keeping Penrith Beach open means swimming space equity for the people of western Sydney, who have missed out until the Minns Labor Government first opened Penrith Beach two years ago,” said Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, Paul Scully.

“Since then, Penrith Beach has quickly become a critical spot for the community to cool down and relax during sweltering summer days.”

The funding, to be confirmed in Tuesday night’s State Budget, comes as the Government confirms it is continuing to work through a State Significant Rezoning to shape the broader Penrith Lakes precinct.

“Penrith has long been recording some of the hottest days on record,” said State Member for Penrith, Karen McKeown.

“It’s never been more important for this community to have options where they can safely swim and enjoy recreation in, on or near the water.”

The beach first opened for the 2023-24 summer season and returned again for 2024-25. In the second year, free shuttle buses were dumped.
