There is a chill in the air and another cold Penrith winter is upon us, sparking the return of the Penrith Winter Appeal.
The Appeal, which supports homeless and vulnerable locals, has been launched by Penrith CBD Corporation in partnership with Penrith City Council, Penrith RSL, Creative Fringe, Penrith Community Kitchen and State Penrith MP Karen McKeown.
As temperatures drop, many members of our local community – including those experiencing homelessness and financial hardship – face a harsh and uncertain winter. Those behind this year’s Appeal are calling on the Penrith community to lend a hand, offer hope, and share warmth by supporting the concept.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said a donation box is located in Penrith City Council’s Civic Centre foyer.
“Council is pleased to support the Winter Appeal as a way to help the most vulnerable in our community,” he said.
“I encourage everyone who can to donate new items and help those doing it tough this winter.”
Locals can help by donating new items of comfort such as beanies, scarves, gloves, socks, and jackets, and drop them off at Council, Penrith RSL, or McKeown’s office at 510 High Street, Penrith.
You can also join The Creative Fringe “Tots” Blanket Challenge. If you love to knit or sew, get involved by creating small blankets for those in need. Visit http://www.thecreativefringe.com.au to learn more and become part of this creative and compassionate challenge.
Finally, there is the option to make a financial contribution. Donate directly to Penrith Community Kitchen at http://www.penrithcommunitykitchen.com.au to support their mission in providing hot, nourishing meals to the community, including 11 local schools.
