Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton will go head-to-head in a debate in western Sydney next week.

The Daily Telegraph and Sky News will host the debate on Tuesday, April 8 at 7.30pm.

The exact location has not been revealed at this stage for security reasons.

Moderated by Sky News Chief News Anchor Kieran Gilbert, Albanese and Dutton will answer questions from 100 undecided voters, as independently selected by Q&A Market Research, who will test the leaders on their vision for our nation, in a raw and authentic debate format.

The critical results of the People’s Forum debate as determined by the undecided voters will be revealed during Paul Murray Live at 9.00pm.

“Our Sky News / The Daily Telegraph People’s Forum is the first chance of this election campaign to see the two leaders go head-to-head. This is the first debate of the campaign and as such is a high stakes moment for both Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton,” Gilbert said.

“The beauty of the Sky News / The Daily Telegraph People’s Forum is that the power is in the hands of the people – it’s an entirely unscripted and unpredictable event for the two leaders to try and navigate.”

The Daily Telegraph Editor Ben English said: “The People’s Forum has set the tone and often the direction of campaigns for more than a decade now. We’re very proud that The Daily Telegraph is partnering with Sky News on this pivotal debate.”

The People’s Forum has been staged at every Federal Election since 2010, including the most recent 2022 Federal Election where Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese went toe-to-toe in Brisbane.

Sky News will broadcast the debate live.
