Penrith’s longest running Indian restaurant, Amma Amma Tamleni, has closed

Tamleni Indian restaurant has closed its doors.

Penrith’s longest running Indian restaurant has quietly closed its doors.

Amma Amma Tamleni, located on Castlereagh Street, closed last week and has been replaced by a new Indian restaurant.

It has been in Penrith for 30 years, originally on High Street before moving to its long-time location across from Penrith RSL.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your continued love and support over the past 30 years,” management said in a statement.

“Serving you has been one of the greatest joys of our lives, and we are truly grateful for every smile, every shared meal, and every memory created together.

“As we close this chapter, we want to let you know that the restaurant has been sold. This decision was not easy, but we are confident that the new owners will carry on the spirit and flavors you’ve come to love.

“Thank you for being a part of our journey. We’ll forever cherish your support and the community we’ve built together.”

Locals have taken to social media to pay tribute to an old favourite.

“You introduced my husband and I to Indian food and now we love it,” Jodie Owen said.

“We’ve moved over two hours away and always compare every new Indian restaurant to Amma Amma’s Tamleni Indian Restaurant. now it will just have to remain as a warm and fuzzy memory in our minds.”

A new Indian restaurant, Dharma’s Amritsari Dhaba, has commenced trading at the location.
