The wait is finally over for almost 80,000 students across NSW who have received their Higher School Certificate (HSC) results today.
Of the cohort, about 70,000 students completed their studies while around 9,500 took on one or more HSC courses before they reach Year 12.
Education Minister Prue Car said this year’s graduates have a positive future ahead.
“Congratulations to all our students from the Class of 2024 who have worked hard to complete their HSC. It is fantastic to see hard work helping students to reach their full potential,” she said.
“Reaching the end of your schooling journey takes grit and dedication, and every student deserves to feel proud of their efforts and everything they have achieved.
“Whether you are moving into the workforce, furthering your education, going into a traineeship or joining TAFE, I wish all our students the very best as they take their next steps forward.”
An impressive 19,591 students received at least one band six and have been recognised on the ‘Distinguished Achievers’ list – making this year the largest HSC honour roll in NSW history.
Yesterday, 131 students were recognised for achieving first place in their course, while another 19,460 students have been recognised in Merit Lists today.
Shadow Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said it’s a day of celebration no matter the marks.
“The Class of 2024 should be extremely proud of everything they have accomplished over the past two years, as their hard work has finally paid off,” Mitchell said.
“I want to congratulate those who achieved the results they were hoping for, but also remind those who didn’t get what they wanted that there are still countless pathways available to help you achieve your goals.
“Whether you are looking to go to university or start training, or work, reaching this milestone will put you in good stead for the next chapter.”
Western Sydney University’s Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor George Williams AO, has shared his congratulations with the class of 2024.
“I want to say to all the students today just a heartfelt ‘well done’. Successfully completing high school is an incredible milestone. No one can take those years of hard work and achievement away from you,” he said.
“I also want to share my congratulations with all the parents, supporters, families, and of course, the teachers, who helped their students on this journey.
“As a parent of a school leaver I know just what’s gone into this moment – all the support during the years of studying, assignments, as well as helping calm any exam nerves.”
