Penrith commuters will face more road closures heading to the festive season.

There will be extended closures of the M4 Motorway off ramps at Mulgoa Road to allow work to transform Mulgoa Road into a three-lane road each way, Transport for NSW confirmed.

“To transform Mulgoa Road into a three lane each-way road to reduce congestion and improve traffic, significant works need to be undertaken around the intersection with the M4 Motorway,” A Transport for NSW spokesperson said.

“In January there will be some extended lane and ramp closures which have been planned for this time when traffic volumes are typically lowest in the year. We will communicate the exact details with the community next month.

“Transport for NSW has distributed a community notification detailing further works to be carried out in December. The works will include Tuesday and Wednesday ramp closures at the M4 as modelling shows traffic at least five per cent lower than on these days than weekends.”

The M4 east and westbound off ramps at Mulgoa Road will be closed from 9.00am to 3.00pm on Tuesday, December 3 and Wednesday, December 4.

The southbound right turn lane onto the M4 westbound on ramp will be closed during the night from 8.00pm to 5.00am during the same dates.

Motorists are urged to use the Glenmore Park roundabout to take a U-turn to access the westbound ramp.

The northbound right turn lane onto the M4 eastbound on ramp will be closed from 8.00pm to 5.00am on Monday, December 2 and Tuesday, December 3.

Motorists are urged to detour by continuing on Mulgoa Road to The Great Western Highway and The Northern Road to access the M4.

There will be lane and road closures during the night work taking place on Mulgoa Road between Jeanette Street and Blaikie Road on Thursday, November 28, Monday, December 2, Tuesday, December 3 and Thursday, December 5 from 6.00pm to 7.00am.
