Royal visits to Penrith over the years

As excitement continues around King Charles and Queen Camilla’s visit to Australia, we look back at Royal visits that have made their way to Penrith over the years.

This photo from March 31, 1927 sees Penrith residents greeting royalty. A brief but historic ceremony presentation was held for the Duke and Duchess of York, regarded as a day of “outstanding importance in the history of Penrith” according to reports at the time.

The Mayor (Ald. J. Jenkins) read the address which was presented to the Duke and Duchess of York.

Below is a Royal Visit to Penrith back on November 29, 1934.

The Mayor Ald. David Fitch, on behalf of the people of Penrith, welcomes the Duke of Gloucester who visited Penrith for inspection of returned Men.

The below photograph shows Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, on the royal train, during the 1954 Royal Visit.

The photograph was taken from the Lemongrove side of the railway line.

Anticipation around the Royal Train passing through Penrith was huge. On February 12 they boarded the Royal train at Bathurst to travel to Sydney, passing through Penrith.
