Man charged over tragic St Marys crash

A 43-year-old man has now been charged over his involvement in Tuesday’s fatal crash at St Marys.

Lual Awan Lueth was killed instantly when the 43-year-old’s car crashed into his vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday.

The 43-year-old, who is yet to be named, ran from the scene before being arrested and has been under police guard in hospital.

He was released from hospital last night, and was immediately taken to St Marys Police Station.

He was charged with ‘dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous’, ‘fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death’, ‘negligent driving (occasioning death)’, ‘drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous’ and ‘drive motor vehicle during disqualification period’.

He was refused bail and will make an appearance before Mount Druitt Local Court today.

A critical incident investigation was declared following the crash.

Police established a crime scene, with a critical incident team from North Shore Police Area Command commencing an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation is also subject to an independent review.

Police had been following the 43-year-old’s vehicle in the lead-up to the crash, though were not in direct pursuit of it at the time of the incident.
