Plans for a new accessible footbridge have been revealed as St Marys Station prepares to undergo a major transformation.

The station is set to turn into a major train, metro and bus hub in preparation for the new Western Sydney International Airport (WSIA) opening in 2026.

A new footbridge is being planned to connect the current St Marys Station with the future Metro station which will move passengers from the suburb to the new airport.

The footbridge is planned to provide access for people with disabilities, prams and luggage will be located at the eastern end of the current station and a new northern plaza off Harris Street with green space will become a major entry to the updated precinct.

The existing footbridge will remain and will serve to connecting T1 Western Line passengers to Queen Street.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Pure Car shared that the work will have a transformational effect on the suburb.

“I spend a lot of early mornings at St Marys Station, and I know passengers at the station are going to love having a front row view to this transformational work,” Car said.

“Soon St Marys will have a direct link to the new airport and this new accessible footbridge will ensure that everyone on the Western Line has easy access to the new Metro.”

The Metro project will see 23 kilometres of new Metro railway lines connecting to the Bradfield City Centre in the South with St Marys in the north, allowing customers to connect to other railway services.

Minister for Transport Jo Haylen said the upgrades will unite all transport services effectively into once place.

“This is the biggest transformation St Marys Station has seen in its 162-year history,” Haylen said.

“Soon it will bring together rail, metro and buses with simple connections between the three via the new bridge.

“The new station will improve accessibility, incorporate bicycle parking and taxi and car drop off zones.”

A Place, Urban design and Corridor Landscape Plan has been prepared to guide the design of the new 55-metre footbridge and landscaping for the northern entry on Harris Street.

The community is being encouraged to provide feedback on the plan up until Sunday, September 15 at http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/stmarys.

Transport for NSW has engaged Laing O’Rourke to deliver the new footbridge and northern plaza as part of the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport Project.
