Police have confirmed they’re investigating whether Bondi Junction killer Joel Cauchi visited Westfield centres in Penrith and Parramatta in the weeks leading up to last weekend’s attacks.
Experienced and well-connected crime reporter Simon Bouda reported on Channel Nine last night that Cauchi, who killed six people at Bondi Junction Westfield before being shot dead by police on Saturday, had been spotted at other Westfield centres in recent weeks.
This morning, Police stopped short of confirming exact locations but confirmed they were tracing Cauchi’s movements in the the days and weeks prior to the attack at Bondi Junction.
“I’ve made it clear from the beginning that we will be going back and looking at this guy’s movements and his history for days, weeks and even into his childhood to get a better understanding of what he was thinking,” Commissioner Karen Webb said this morning.
“We will get a picture of his movements and what he’s been doing in and around New South Wales and Sydney in particular.”
There is no ongoing threat in relation to last Saturday’s incident but it is understood Westfield has implemented an increased security presence at its centres.
