The Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed a player from its A-League Men’s team has tested positive to COVID-19.
The player is currently in isolation.
“The case involves a double-vaccinated person who tested positive to a PCR test on 23 December,” the Wanderers said in a statement.
“The safety of players, officials, members and fans is our primary concern and we are working closely with the Australian Professional Leagues and NSW Health to enact league protocol and to limit any potential spread of the virus.
“No other members of the club’s playing, coaching, medical and operational staff have presented symptoms, but all have undergone PCR testing and are self-isolating until they present a negative result.”
The Wanderers are due to play Newcastle on Boxing Day.
The game will be played behind closed doors, a decision made earlier this week as the COVID outbreak in NSW escalates.
