Community feedback sought on chopper proposal

The community is being encouraged to provide its feedback on plans for the construction and operation of a helipad in the Penrith Lakes precinct in western Sydney.

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment’s Executive Director for Infrastructure Assessments, Erica van den Honert, said community input was vital in the assessment process.

“The proposal seeks to construct and operate a helipad facility with a maximum of 25 aircraft movements per day, operating from first light until 10pm,” Ms van den Honert said.

“If approved, the proposal would allow Sydney Helicopters to offer charter flights, film and photography services, as well as assisting emergency services, such as the Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Services.

“Our role is to assess the application in consultation with the local community, government agencies, councils and other stakeholders.

“After the exhibition closes, we will review all submissions received and the applicant’s response to issues raised during the public exhibition period, as part of our rigorous assessment process.”

The community is invited to have its say on the proposal by visiting the Development Applications On Exhibition web page by Friday, December 3.

The Department is currently reviewing submissions to proposed amendments to the Penrith Lakes State Environmental Planning Policy, that enable a heliport to be considered for the site.
