Walking in Bob’s footsteps

Keeping her husband’s memory alive, Carol Wilson, of Kingswood, is hoping people are ready to walk for charity this coming March.

Ms Wilson’s husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 and after seeing what suffering children go through when they have the disease, he decided to create a fundraising event called ‘Bob (Tug) Wilson’s Walk for Kids with Cancer’.

Mr Wilson passed away just three weeks before the first event was meant to take place, but Ms Wilson and the team of walkers still went ahead with the event – a 34 day walk from Coolangatta, Queensland to Canberra, that raised $74,000.

The walk has developed over time and has become widely popular, having been awarded with a ‘Lifetime Partner Award’ by the Children’s Hospital at Westmead for raising in excess of $150,000 in 2015.

“The walks have been amazing and what we have been able to achieve has been wonderful,” Ms Wilson said.

The goal this year is to raise $250,000.

Participants will walk from the Sydney Opera House to Manly.
