Penrith has its very own entry into this year’s Red Bull Billy Cart race.
The team, known as Team Spaceballs, is made up of four everyday blokes from Emu Plains, Glossodia and Rouse Hill with their billy cart based on the 1987 film ‘Spaceballs’.
After thousands of entries into the event this year, Team Spaceballs say they couldn’t believe it when they got their acceptance letter.
The team will go up against other competitors in a battle of speed, showmanship and design as they each take to the purpose built track, complete with launch ramps and obstacles.
“I think we’ve got a pretty good chance – we’ve put in a fair bit of effort,” Emu Plains resident, Brendan Thompson said.
“I think we could win, our cart is pretty durable and has done well in our trial runs.”
With their billy cart just about ready to go, the boys say they thought they might not have finished it in time.
The Red Bull Billy Cart race is on next Sunday, November 15, at Loch Avenue at Centennial Parklands, in the city, from 11am.
