Around 100 local kids visited St Marys Leagues Club on Wednesday morning to take part in a junior rugby clinic with players from the NSW Waratahs.
Boys and girls aged between six and 14-years-old took part in skills and drills with current Wallabies and Waratahs players including Sekope Kepu, Will Skelton, Paddy Ryan and Jono Lance.
Chris McKenzie, Manager of Macquarie Sports who hosted the event, said Penrith was the first of five stops for the clinic this year.
“A lot of the kids here today don’t have any affiliation with a rugby club but come with league and even touch football backgrounds. All kids leave today with a football, kicking tee and autographs,” he said.
Mr McKenzie added that the clinics were not only beneficial for children’s health and fitness but also to expose them to well known players in the hope that they too will go on to become Australian sporting stars.
“A lot of these players 15 years ago were in these kids’ shoes and have gone on to achieve very high sporting honours,” he said.
