A 16-year-old unaccompanied learner driver has crashed a car into a house at St Marys this morning, with his teenage passenger suffering serious spinal injuries.
Just after 10am, emergency services were called to Kenny Avenue after a vehicle, travelling on a straight stretch of road, crashed into a fence and the front of a house.
The house was unoccupied at the time.
The two occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital. The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries. His 16-year-old front-seat passenger suffered serious spinal and head injuries.
A gas main was ruptured, and had to be cut off, but no evacuations were required.
Police are investigating witness reports that speed may have been a factor in the crash.
