Local seniors who are doing it tough this festive season are set have their Christmas’ brightened thanks to The Good Guys.
Over the past month the Penrith store, located on Henry Street, has been the drop off point for the Our Community Cares Christmas Appeal, supplying food parcels to local elderly and homeless people. The campaign collected non-perishable items which will be distributed to people in need on Christmas Day.
The store will also be donating food hampers to their cause partner Christ Mission Possible, giving the Kingswood-based charity the opportunity to provide further meals to their recipients.
The Good Guys chose to support Christ Mission Possible this year because the team believes the charity offers a much-needed service.
The Good Guys Penrith General Manager, Emilio Reino, said he’s looking forward to being able to support these charities this holiday season.
“Christmas is a time for giving and if we can help these worthy charities in any way, either through support or raising funds then we are happy to do so,” he said.
“Many of us are lucky to be able to eat at home with our family every day but there are those who do not have a home or elderly people struggling financially who we wish to help.”
For the grandkids, the store will also be holding a Disney themed colouring competition up until Christmas with Disney prizes up for grabs. Entry is a gold coin donation and all proceeds will go to Christ Mission Possible.
CEO of Christ Mission Possible, Martin Beckett, said the work they do wouldn’t be possible without the support of Mr Reino and the staff at The Good Guys, Penrith.
“We’ve been partnered with The Good Guys for a number of years now and have formed a great relationship with them,” he said.
“They donate to us on a quarterly basis through their local community partnerships program. For example, a percentage of all of their sales goes towards supporting our work, which is wonderful.”
The local charity helps more than 7,000 people a week with food handouts as well as helps to re-home over 300 people each year who are homeless.
In an annual Christmas tradition, tonight Christ Mission Possible will give out 500 hampers to the needy at the car park of Kingswood Station.
