Local businessman Graham Chapman is known for the variety of work he does in the Penrith community, but he’s now proven himself as a real life crime stopper.
Mr Chapman received a community award from Penrith police last week after he gave chase to a well-known criminal when he suspected something was unfolding and guided police to his capture through a 000 call.
“I had no idea that he was such a wanted criminal, I just did what every other community minded person would do, I gave chase and observed him change clothes and blend in with the community to avoid been seen,” Mr Chapman told the Weekender.
“He never even knew I was chasing him – I was hiding behind cars, people, telegraph poles and secretly guiding police in. It was a great moment when the police arrived and arrested him.”
But despite his crime fighting efforts, Mr Chapman doesn’t plan on a permanent career in policing.
“I have the utmost respect and admiration for their efforts in protecting the community,” Mr Chapman said.
“Without the police we are nothing.”
