A man who punched his former partner five times, including a number of times to the face, has escaped with a good behaviour bond.

The man appeared before the court this week on an assault charge for the second time, after he failed to appear at Penrith Local Court on the last occasion.

The man plead guilty to charges of assault and damage property after an incident involving his former partner.

The pair had been in a relationship for four years when one night, after they had been consuming alcohol together, an argument broke out.

The argument led to a physical altercation where the offender punched the victim five times, including a number of blows to the face.

He then kicked in a door, causing significant damage.

The police were called by a neighbour and when they arrived, they located the heavily intoxicated man asleep in the back of his utility.

For the assault charge, the man was placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond under section 9, with a specific condition to not assault the victim.

For the damage to the door, the man was fined $400.
