A man will appear in court today after allegedly assaulting police in Werrington last night.
About 11.30pm, police from St Marys Local Area Command stopped a car on Parkes Avenue, Werrington, for the purpose of a random breath test.
The test was positive and the man was subsequently arrested.
Police will allege the 36-year-old man resisted arrest before violently struggling with the officers.
The man was subdued with OC spray; however, a number of officers were then contaminated with the substance.
The man allegedly continued to struggle with police before assaulting a male constable and spitting in his face.
He was taken to St Marys Police Station where he allegedly refused to submit a breath analysis.
The Werrington man was subsequently charged with fail/refuse to undergo breath analysis; resist arrest; assault police; and malicious damage.
He’s been bail refused and will appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.
The male constable was taken to Nepean Hospital as a precaution.
